Doctor of Audiology Program
Distance Learning Computer Requirements

Hardware Requirements

  1. Computer

    * 2 Gigahertz, or any dual or quad core processor.
    * 512 Megabytes of RAM (or of similar performance)
    * 40 Gigabyte Hard Drive.
  2. 10/100 Ethernet Adapter for Broadband and/or 56K Data Modem for dialup network connection

Broadband connectivity is highly recommended (DSL, Cable, or Satellite). Students using dialup only may experience difficulties with some UF systems.
  3. Sound card and speakers (or headphones)

The program utilizes multimedia CD-ROMs and online presentations. A reasonable sound quality is important for uses such as streamed video of classes, distance tutoring, and narrated presentations.
  4. Video Card and Monitor (1024 by 768 minimum resolution)

A monitor resolution less than indicated here will result in web pages not fitting on a single screen. This will require scrolling vertically and horizontally to view a complete page.

Software Requirements

  1. Windows (2000, XP, Vista) or Mac OS X

(Windows-based computers are the dominant choice in most University of Florida academic programs.)
  2. Internet Explorer 6.0.26+, Netscape 7.0, or Mozilla (Firefox) 1.6, or a higher version of any of these browsers.
  3. Macromedia Flash Plug-In
  4. Windows Media Player
  5. Sun Java 1.4.2 (Microsoft's version of Java is not supported)
  6. Microsoft Office
