Distance Learning Computer Requirements
Hardware Requirements
- Computer
* 2 Gigahertz, or any dual or quad core processor.
* 512 Megabytes of RAM (or of similar performance)
* 40 Gigabyte Hard Drive. - 10/100 Ethernet Adapter for Broadband and/or 56K Data Modem for dialup network connection
Broadband connectivity is highly recommended (DSL, Cable, or Satellite). Students using dialup only may experience difficulties with some UF systems. - Sound card and speakers (or headphones)
The program utilizes multimedia CD-ROMs and online presentations. A reasonable sound quality is important for uses such as streamed video of classes, distance tutoring, and narrated presentations. - Video Card and Monitor (1024 by 768 minimum resolution)
A monitor resolution less than indicated here will result in web pages not fitting on a single screen. This will require scrolling vertically and horizontally to view a complete page.
Software Requirements
- Windows (2000, XP, Vista) or Mac OS X
(Windows-based computers are the dominant choice in most University of Florida academic programs.) - Internet Explorer 6.0.26+, Netscape 7.0, or Mozilla (Firefox) 1.6, or a higher version of any of these browsers.
- Macromedia Flash Plug-In
- Windows Media Player
- Sun Java 1.4.2 (Microsoft's version of Java is not supported)
- Microsoft Office
- E-mail software -- Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla, or other IMAP or POP email software may be useful, but WebMail is also available.
